What to know before you consume.

Cannabis concentrates are concentrated forms of cannabis made by extracting naturally occurring cannabinoid resins and bioactives like THC and CBD from raw cannabis plants. Aurum Botanics offers cannabis concentrates that provide a powerful and premium consumption experience customers say feels purer and more intense than smoking flower.

These products are versatile and potent. Available in various textures and tastes, there’s a landscape of cannabis concentrates to explore.

Cannabis concentrate product styles.

Hash is the cannabis concentrate most consumers are familiar with, but these days, there’s a variety of concentrate styles on the market. Here’s what you’ll find at Aurum Botanics:

Wax

Often consumed with dedicated dab rigs (imagine a specialized bong for concentrated cannabis), cannabis wax is a creamy concentrate made by blasting raw plant material with solvent before whipping it to aerate, forming a wax-like substance.

Live Resin/Rosin

A recent addition to the concentrate market, live resin/rosin retains the plant’s essential aromas and flavors due to its flash-freezing extraction process. Many people consider live resin/rosin the purest expression of the plant.

Butter/Batter

Similar to wax, budder/batter is whipped more gently and briefly to create a cake batter texture.

Shatter

Shatter is a potent concentrate best reserved for experienced consumers. It’s made by removing excess fats and waxes from refined flower to create a product resembling stained glass. When glass breaks, it shatters, hence the product name.

Crumble

With a texture similar to aged cheese, crumble retains a fuller spectrum of flavorful, aromatic terpenes due to the lower temperatures used during extraction.

Diamonds/Sugar

Created with a slower extraction process that allows the concentrate to form into delicate, shiny crystals, diamonds/sugar is as pretty as it is potent.

Moon Rocks

An unusual hybrid of flower and concentrates, moon rocks are made by dipping high-grade buds in hash oil and then coating it with a fine layer of kief dust to create a potent and indulgent cannabis concentrate.

How are cannabis concentrates made?

Cannabis concentrates are made using a variety of extraction methods, but here are the four most common:

Ice Water Extraction

To create cannabis concentrates using ice water extraction, plant material is blended until the trichomes fall off, then sifted through screens to create either bubble hash or Full Melt concentrate. Many connoisseurs prefer ice-water-extracted concentrates for their pure taste.

BHO (Butane Hash Oil) Extraction

Butane establishes a frigid environment in BHO extraction, creating a distinctive slab of trichomes. Any leftover butane is removed in a two-step process, resulting in potent shatter, wax, or live resin/rosin dripping with concentrated cannabinoids.

PHO (Propane Hash Oil) Extraction

PHO extraction is the same as BHO extraction, except the extraction process uses propane instead of butane.

CO2 Hash Oil

Used to create premium liquid cannabis concentrates, CO2 extraction uses carbon dioxide as a cold solvent, forming a pure-tasting but still highly potent product.

Ways to consume cannabis concentrates.

Consumers unfamiliar with concentrates might find them overwhelming, but it couldn’t be easier. Here are the three most common methods for using cannabis concentrates:

Dabbing

The classic method of concentrate consumption, dabbing, can be used to smoke nearly any standard BHO or CO2 concentrate, as well as any concentrate with a softer, more liquid texture.

It requires tools to execute successfully, so before you get started, ensure you have your dab rig, quartz nail or banger, torch, dab tool, and carb cap.

Most dab rig kits come standard with all the accessories you need. Once you have your rig assembled, scoop a dab of concentrate with your dab tool, apply it to the bottom of the banger, and cap it with the carb cap before you apply heat using your torch. Inhale until the rig is clear, and enjoy the immediate, intense onset (pro tip: clean your dab rig regularly).

Smoking

If dabbing sounds overwhelming, you might add crumble, wax, or shatter to flower for an amplified consumption experience. Crumble a little concentrate into your pre-roll, bowl, or pipe before smoking, or dip pre-rolls in warm cannabis oil before rolling in kief for a genuinely over-the-top indulgence.

Vaping

Even easier than smoking or dabbing, vaping is the most discrete and convenient concentrate consumption method. All you need is a vaporizer designed for concentrates. Fill the vaporizer chamber with your desired dose, heat the device, and inhale.

*Please note that cannabis concentrates are potent products requiring considerate consumption. We want to ensure you have the best possible experience, so we strongly encourage you to speak with our budtenders before you consume.
