How to safely consume cannabis edibles.

Consuming cannabis edibles is intuitive—just take a bite. Still, for the best possible experience, there are a few things you should consider. Here are our expert budtenders’ tips.

Start Low

Keep dosage to a minimum the first few times you sample a new edible. Start with half a serving (typically 5 mg), and slowly increase with each new session until you find your perfect dosage.

Go Slow

Unlike other cannabis consumption methods, edibles have to pass through your liver to deliver a psychoactive experience. It typically takes between 30 minutes and 3 hours to notice the peak effects. We strongly discourage you from consuming more during the initial onset time.

Don't Mix

Edibles should be enjoyed alone. They pack a powerful punch, so avoid mixing them with alcohol or other substances.

Practice Safe Storage

Edibles can look like an ordinary treat, so practice safe storage to keep them from unwanted hands. Store in their original packaging, or move to a labeled child and pet-proof container.

The science behind cannabis edibles.

When you consume a cannabis edible, your body processes, digests, and metabolizes it like any other food, absorbing the cannabinoids that give cannabis its psychoactive effects.

This digestion process means that the cannabinoids an edible contains are absorbed directly into your bloodstream, which gives edibles their reputation for packing a powerful punch. Gram for gram, edibles are typically more potent than other forms of cannabis.

Digestion takes time, so expect your cannabis edible effects to come on slowly and steadily and last for much longer than the effects of other forms of cannabis. Onset can take 5 minutes to 3 hours, with effects lingering from 3 to 6 hours or more.

Any edibles’ effects can vary considerably from person to person and even from session to session. Factors such as your mood, how full your stomach is, and several other variables will impact your experience. Because of this, we always recommend new consumers begin with micro-doses of between 2.5 and 5 mg.

A smoke-free cannabis experience.

Edibles are a great excuse to enjoy a tasty treat, but that’s not the only reason many cannabis consumers prefer them. Edibles allow you to enjoy cannabis without smoking or vaping, absorbing THC through your digestive system instead of your lungs.

The primary difference between smokable and smoke-free cannabis is the absorption rate of THC and other active compounds like THC, CBD, and other minor cannabinoids.

Your body absorbs these compounds more effectively through digestion. That means inhaling 10mg of THC will feel much less intense than eating it, so start low, go slow, and wait at least two hours before increasing your dose.
